The Good

It's fun and exciting to see these characters and franchises come together, the storytelling is economical and compelling, and the surprises are effective.

The Bad

Too long, too crowded, too tonally muddled. A bold ending that is begging for almost immediately retcon.

Bottom Line

When people say that a movie “feels like a comic book” they usually mean that it’s colorful and stylized. But Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War truly feels like a comic book, for better or worse.

When people say that a movie “feels like a comic book” they usually mean that it’s colorful and stylized. But Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War truly feels like a comic book, for better or worse. This is a crazy, frantic, crowded, dark ensemble adventure that jumps from New York to Scotland to a magical forge in outerspace with characters fighting and quipping and speechifying and dying, and there’s another shock around every corner. Not everything works, but somehow Infinity War manages to be both fun AND devastating. Dropping the “Part One” from the title was a savvy marketing decision that helps to land an ending that seems more bold when you’re not reminded of sequels or comic book logic in general.
